Yes, but this tool plots occurrences in books–if it included messageboards, blogs, etc., it’d be a different story, and probably more in line with what you predicted (it’s interesting the extent to which the written word is no longer able to capture the zeitgeist).

What I’m afraid of is that the Ralph Naderizaition of Pantalone is just want “they” (the Ford-Smitherman-Media camps) want us to believe.

In going over this now, most of the markup by the teacher is toward the spelling-mistakes (corrected in the retyping). I’d typed this up initially using my Commodore 64 and it was pre-spellcheck. Further, my teacher’s comments (reproduced above), regarding short paragraph length, now seem quaint when blogging and increased screen-reading had encouraged shorter paragraphs. All in all, I fell like I lost twenty points from the mark for concerns that have become obsolete.
